Summer to Fall: Sensitive Skin 101

Summer to Fall: Sensitive Skin 101

It’s in the air; cool crisp evenings, bursts of brilliant fall leaves. Pumpkin lattes, and holiday décor begin dominating Instagram. Kiss the long, lazy days of summer goodbye. Fall has arrived! And with it a new set of challenges for sensitive skin. To make sure your skin transitions beautifully follow our tips for Summer to Fall sensitive skin care.

Boost Hydration

The drop in temperature, reduction in humidity, cold winds and dry heat mean dull, dehydrated skin. Skin feels parched and tight. You’ll see more fine lines, deep creasing and noticeable flaking all of which leads to lackluster, unhealthy-looking skin.

The solution is to strengthen your protective skin barrier and give it a boost of extra hydration with Skin Identical Ingredients like essential fatty acids (EFA)’s, ceramides, plant sterols and natural moisturizing factors (NMF) including hyaluronic acid and Sodium PCA. Cleanse with a gentle oil or cream cleanser and reduce the number of times you exfoliate to 1x per week or less. Give your skin a break from harsher treatments, such as peels and microdermabrasion. The key here is to increase hydrating NMF and skin oils and reinforce the protective skin barrier, not remove or damage it by over cleansing and exfoliating.

Our HARMONY Omega 3|6 Recovery Serum and BLISS NMF | Transformative Moisture Mist is the perfect pair to hydrate, soothe and comfort irritated skin. BLISS offers a surge of intense hydration with medium and low weight hyaluronic acid, Sodium PCA, amino acids and mineral rich organic sea kelp. Follow with HARMONY to lock in the moisture with Omega 3 & 6 rich organic plant oils and barrier repairing Ceramide 3. Bisabolol and gromwell extracts help to reduce redness and inflammation.

Minimize Summer Sun Damage

No matter how vigilant you are about applying sunscreen and limiting sun exposure, the carefree summer days of beach, BBQs, and festivals mean UV related skin damage. Most noticeably dark spots, enlarged pores, and harmful sunburn.

During the summer, heat, humidity, excess oil production, sunscreen and heavy sweat-proof makeup can block pores more than usual and create a slew of unsightly blackheads. Increased UV and pollution exposure trigger destructive free radicals, weakening skins support structure and further increasing pore size. Hyper-pigmentation has also occurred in full force.

To recover from all your summer fun (which, as a side note, you should never feel guilty about!), feed your skin inside and out with free radical fighting vitamin and antioxidant-rich fruits and vegetables. Try a weekly mask of whole fat Greek yogurt and pumpkin puree. The lactic acid and pumpkin enzymes will gently exfoliate your skin and minimize pore size. Milk fats will also hydrate and soothe dry, dehydrated skin. Make sure you keep up with your broad-spectrum mineral sunscreen application to prevent further sun damage.

Get Glowing!

Cell turnover and healthy circulation are key to that natural rosy glow. Shorter, colder, darker days mean less time spent outdoors exercising and getting your body moving. To increase radiance and boost micro-circulation, treat your skin to our PURITY Marine | Mineral Detox Mask. Mineral-rich organic seaweeds, Dead Sea salt, Gotu Kola and green tea gently purify and increase blood flow. Mix with lukewarm ginger tea to further energize and stimulate the skin.

Skin-Perfecting Chai

A steamy cup of chai is a delicious way to practice self-care and ease into the cooler season. This golden tea latte won’t just make you feel cozy—it also helps boost your skin from the inside thanks to the powerful anti-inflammatory and detoxifying effects of turmeric and ginger. The beautiful orange color will make you feel like you’re being personally welcomed to Fall. Enjoy!

  • 1 cup non-dairy milk of your choice (if you want a thinner consistency, go for coconut milk; or cashew milk for thicker texture)
  • 1 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cardamom
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2 teaspoons ginger
  • 1 teaspoon raw honey or other natural sweetener

1. Heat up your non-dairy milk on medium-low heat.
2. Thoroughly mix the cardamom, ground cloves, allspice, cinnamon, and ginger. (If you don’t want to purchase all of these spices, you can also buy a premade chai mix.)
3. Add the spice mix and turmeric powder to the milk until you achieve the desired flavor. You can save any extra in an airtight tar or spice canister.
4. When milk is warm enough, pour into a mug along with your sweetener of choice. Use a frother or whisk to blend.
